Opportunities in the BMed Lab
The Behavioral Medicine Lab in the Department of Kinesiology at UMass Amherst is recruiting graduate students.
Dr. Katie Potter and the UMass Amherst Behavioral Medicine lab are recruiting MS and PhD students to join the lab starting fall 2020. The mission of our lab is to find innovative ways to promote sustainable physical activity and to improve mental health, cognitive health, and social well-being. Current projects in the lab are investigating how dogs affect physical activity and health-related quality of life. We are particularly interested in recruiting students that are interested in the human-animal bond and dog walking, but we welcome applicants with broader interests, including but not limited to the following:
Contemporary physical activity behavior change science, including studying the role of affect, habit, and identity
Mental health and cognitive benefits of exercise and physical activity
Mental, social, and physical health benefits of the human-animal bond, particularly the dog-human bond
Dog-based physical activity interventions (for both dog owners and non-dog owners)
Stealth interventions to increase physical activity, improve mental health
We are seeking creative, conscientious team players with strong interpersonal communication and writing skills. We welcome applications from students with diverse academic backgrounds.
Please contact Dr. Potter (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions about current projects in the lab, graduate student responsibilities, and assistantships. Please include a summary of your research interests and attach a resume/CV to the email. We look forward to hearing from you!
